Roughly 32.7 million patients were admitted to the
nation's hospitals in 2001, according to the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention. In the Dallas-Fort
Worth area, residents have plenty of options if they
find themselves in need of such care. The area houses
dozens of facilities.

Mothers-to-be,
in particular, seem to like Dallas. Parkland Memorial Hospital
delivered 15,910 babies in 2002, down slightly from 2001.
Dallas is also home to many
medical students. For example, the University of Texas Southwestern
Medical Center at Dallas annually trains about 3,400 medical,
graduate and allied-health students, including clinical
residents and postdoctoral fellows.
Four hospitals are housed
on the UT Southwestern campus: Zale Lipshy University Hospital,
St. Paul University Hospital, Parkland and Children's Medical
Center of Dallas.
