Here in Texas, braggin' is OK. The folks back home might
not approve, but that's because they don't know what they're
missing. You can help them out by sending them some real
Texana.
To get you started, here are a few suggestions. They won't
forget where you are with this picture frame in distressed
wood decorated with a cowboy hat and boots. Large enough
for a 5-by-7-inch photo, the frame costs $27 at Western
Warehouse and Boot Town stores, both of which have numerous
locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. One of the best
things about living in Texas is being close to Mexico.

While other people
are snapping up ethnic jewelry impostors, these are the
real thing. The hand-shaped tin earrings are a copy of the
silver earrings that Mexican artist Frida Kahlo wore in
one of her famous paintings. Other whimsical or colorful
earrings, bracelets and necklaces made of such materials
as glass, clay and silver range in price from $5 (for the
hand earrings) to $20 and up. They're available at Casa
Mexicana, 2616 Elm St., in Deep Ellum, 214-747-7227. www.casamexicanafolkart.com.
Our cowboys even come in
chocolate. Designed by Morgen Chocolate, this handsome
fella stands about a foot tall and is handmade in
white, milk and dark chocolate. He weighs 1 pound
and costs $24 plus shipping. The folks at Morgen
are experts at shipping chocolate, so fear not,
your man won't melt en route. www.morgenchocolate.com,
4516 McKinney Ave., 214-520-2462.
For the Friday night cowboy, this white dress shirt
with a black yoke and black and white piping has fancy
black snaps on the front and sleeves. Send one to a
brother or uncle back home or give it to your own budding
cowboy. $40 at Western Warehouse and Boot Town stores,
found throughout the area.
Your new neighbors will know
you're here to stay when they see you walking Fido
in his sequined Texas T-shirt. This one is chihuahua-size,
but you can get them big enough to fit a bulldog.
They come in red and blue, cost $18 and are available
at Haute Dogs & Fat Cats, 114 Preston Royal Village,
214-369-8380.
